Three LNG carriers and one VLCC made u-turns before entering Strait of Hormuz after renewed attacks

Fri Jul 10 13:05:16 CEST 2026 Timsen

The 'Al Ghariya', 'Duhail' and 'Al Ruwais', which were sailing towards the Strait of Hormuz turned back, after fresh attacks on commercial vessels on July 8, 2026, raised security concerns, as Iran fired missiles at ships in the waterway. Maritime authorities later raised the threat level for vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz to “severe”, leading some operators to change their routes. All three LNG carriers were empty and heading to Qatar’s Ras Laffan export terminal to load LNG cargoes. The VLCC 'Lila Vadinar', carrying around two million barrels of Kuwaiti crude loaded late last week, made a U-turn off the coast of Oman on July 9 before entering the Strait of Hormuz. Since the conflict began in late February, at least 16 LNG cargoes have left Qatar’s Ras Laffan terminal, while another 10 cargoes have departed ADNOC’s Das Island terminal in the United Arab Emirates.

Medevac off Las Palmas

Sat Oct 26 16:30:31 CEST 2024 Timsen

The 'Duhail', en route from Rovigon to Ras Laffan, requested the urgent evacuation of a sick crew member on the morning of Oct 26, 2024, about 20 nautical miles away from Las Palmas port. The MRCC of Salvamento Marítimo in Las Palmas mobilized the SAR helicopter Helimer 204 that hoisted the patient, who was transferred directly to the Negrín hospital for further medical treatment.
