Tue May 12 13:10:47 CEST 2026 Timsen

The 'First Ferry VI', with 29 passengers and five crew members on board, ran aground on a barrier at a typhoon shelter near Hei Ling Chau on M;ay 11, 2026, at around 12.55 a.m. All 34 people on board remained unscathed. The ferry was operating the 12.30 a.m. service from Central to Mui Wo,when it struck trocks close to the breakwater of the Hei Ling Chau Typhoon Shelter. The impact left the bow mounted against the structure. Some passengerf ell onto the cabin floor during the collision. Marine Police and other emergency services were dispatched.. They transferred all the commuters to a rescue boat at around 2.10 a.m., before moving them to a second vessel that reached Mui Wo ferry pier 20 minutes later. All were subsequently taken safely to Mui Wo Pier. The ferry may have strayed south of its normal navigation channel shortly before the grounding. The Sun Ferry company was cooperating fully with the authorities as an investigation into the cause continued. As of the afternoon, the stranded vessel had yet to be removed. The ferry showed no signs of water ingress or sinking, with the towing operations being underway. https://www.thestandard.com.hk/news/article/331704/ Reports with photos: https://www.dimsumdaily.hk/sun-ferry-runs-aground-near-hei-ling-chau-34-safe/#google_vignette https://www.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/society/article/3353164/ferry-passengers-stranded-over-hour-after-vessel-hits-typhoon-shelter-barrier
