Sanctioned Russian shadow fleet tanker entered English Channel
The 'Forwarder', the first Russian shadow fleet tanker since the seizure of the 'Smyrnos', has entered the English Channel on the evening of Jne 24, 2026. The ship had left the port of Primorsk on jne 12 after loading oil, and entered the Channel, sailed south, broadcasting its final destination as Dongying port. UK-sanctioned tankers had avoided the Channel since the 'Smyrtos' was intercepted with tracking data showing several vessels altering course to avoid the waterway. The Royal Navy warship, HMS 'Tyne' was operating in the area near the tanker's location. The 'Forwarder' was sanctioned by the UK, the US and the EU in 2025. Since the British government accused it of smuggling oil from Russia, the vessel has changed its name twice.
