Medical emergencies on paddle wheeler on Kiel Fjord

During the traditional Windjammer Parade of the Kiel Week on June 27, 2026, medical emergencies occurred on the 'Freya'. Several people were transported to the Recentlou Bridge, where emergency medical services took charge of them, using the DGzRS lifeboat 'Eckernförde' and the fire department’s fireboat ' Dat Füerschipp'. Earlier, the lifeboat 'Berlin' frim the DGzRS station Laboe had already transported a female patient to emergency services in Kiel-Holtenau.

Police searching for third man after attempted break in

Three men attempted to break into the 'Freya', moored in the inner port of Kiel, early on July 18, 2025. There is the suspicion that three men attempted to board the historic paddle wheeler. Two of the suspected perpetrators were already under investigation. The third suspect was still being sought. Two employees of the Kiel Towing and Ferry Company (SFK) noticed that three people were attempting to break into the ship around 5 a.m. The two men approached the suspects and alerted the police. The suspects had already fled the paddle wheeler on foot before the police arrived. Police officers gave chase. They were able to arrest two men, aged 43 and 31. A knife they were carrying was confiscate. After consultation with the public prosecutor's office, both suspects were released on the scene. The third suspect escaped. The water police was investigating a particularly serious case of theft, as the three men were alleged to have previously boarded a neighbouring SFK ferry. Police are accepting tips at +49 431 160-1610.

Medevac at Kiel Week

On June 24 , 2011, the lifeboats "Berlin" from the DGzRS station Laboe medevaced a cardiac patient from the "Freya". At the height of the l/h Friedrichsort the small boat "Steppke" was launched with a doctor on board. Jointly with the rescue men he treated the passenger in the lifeboat's hospital, while he was taken to the port of Laboe to a waiting ambulance. Neu!
