Fusión sank in Chincui Bay
The "Fusión," which had listed while anchored in Chincui Bay in the municipality of Puerto Montt on the morning of Dec 12, was found half-submerged on the morning of Dec 13, with the foreship flooded and the wheelhouse as well as the adjacent cargo hold partially under water. The ship was beached, but with a draft of four meters, much of its structure became submerged due to the rising tide. The vessel was located approximately 20 meters from the beach. The Maritime Authority remained on site, overseeing the operations and securing the vessel against any potential loss of hydrocarbons, though there was neither fuel nor a crew on board. The vessel had been moved to a safe location to allow for a hull inspection and other procedures to determine the cause of the list. Containment booms have been deployed as a precaution by the Chilean Navy. The Maritime Prosecutor of Puerto Montt has initiated an investigation to determine the possible causes and responsibilities for the emergency.
