The captain of the 'Arina 1' was arrested by a Special Missions Unit of the Greek Military after they boarded the tanker on Feb 10, 2024, for abducting three people. The shuo was ordered to divert to the anchorage at Chios, where the Special Missions Unit boarded the vessel with automatic rifles drawn and began to search the ship. The team took the captain, the chief engineer, and the three people who were allegedly being held against their will, ashore. After questioning, the captain was arrested on charges of abducting a Filipino captain, a Filipino engineer, and a Greek engineer. The three men had come aboard the vessel as inspectors for a buyer.
