Crew sent home to Caribbean

Fri Oct 30 22:59:20 CET 2026 Timsen

The five crew members of the 'Gloria', the former 'Holmefjord', has suddenly been sent back to their respective home countries in the Caribbean, leaving the vessel abandoned and unattended in Bronnøysund. Consequently, the future of the cargo ship—which was intended to sail all the way across the Atlantic to Freeport in the Bahamas—was uncertain. Not long ago, over 20,000 liters of additional diesel were brought on board and stored in a flexible tank in the cargo hold, intended to ensure sufficient fuel for the voyage home. The ship has long been based in Samnanger, where it remained moored at the very head of the Trengereidfjord. The vessel has been stationed there for many years; whenever it set sail, it would pass by the Os area—traversing the Bjørnafjord—before returning. For the time being, it appeared that the ship has been left to its own fate. The departure for the Caribbean was repeatedly postponed while awaiting better weather conditions along the route through Europe. A few weeks ago, this led to the decision to defer the voyage home until the spring. It was currently unknown who would be responsible for overseeing the 'Gloria' during this period, or thereafter. The crew has faced difficulties in receiving their wages, and ongoing berthage fees have remained unpaid for an extended period.
