Lifeboat damaged by van
On April 29, 2026, the Sassnitz Water Police was notified at at approximately 1:15 p.m. that a small delivery van drove uncontrollably onto the deck of the moored 'Harro Koebke'. Upon arrival, it was determined that the driver of the van had stopped near the quay in Sassnitz's city harbour to make a delivery. While the driver was still inside the van, it began to move forward uncontrollably, with its front axle rolling over the quay and onto the deck of the lifeboat. This caused significant damage to the lifeboat's railing. The 36-year-old driver suffered minor injuries. The Sassnitz Water Police recorded the accident. A breathalyzer test administered to the driver was negative. A towing company was able to remove the damaged van from the quayside. Police officers from the Sassnitz Water Police Inspectorate (WSPI) also filed a traffic violation report against the van's driver. The total damage to the lifeboat was estimated at approximately €7,000. It remained, however, seaworthy. Report with photos: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1HZPQv4TpE/
