Cutter was in danger of sinking
On Sep 7 at 08:26 a.m. the Büsum Volunteer Fire Department was alerted after a water ingress on the "Hauke" in Harbour Basin II. The cutter was in danger of sinking due to the incoming water. A defect in a seawater valve or an associated pipeline was suspected as the cause. Upon the fire department's arrival, the DGzRS lifeboat "Paul Neisse" was already on site and had begun pumping water out of the crew quarters. Using the fire department's equipment vehicle, a pump was positioned in the "Hauke's" engine room. At that time, the engine room was flooded up to the top of the engine block. In parallel, preparations were made—in coordination with the DGzRS—to move the ship to the Landberg boatyard's slipway at the end of Harbour Basin II. As a precaution, an emergency generator was brought on board for the transfer to ensure a power supply for the technical equipment in use, particularly pumps and lighting. The contaminated bilge water was collected in three 1,000-liter drums provided by the Landberg boatyard. The LKN (State Agency for Coastal Protection, National Park and Marine Conservation) handled the subsequent removal and disposal of the drums. Following a successful transfer under tow of the 'Paul Neisse' and the workboat 'Nis Puk', the "Hauke" was pulled on the slipway. After the scene was cleared, the fire department returned to the station. Reports with photos: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1KDHwLEQNb/ https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1UikYhPi3B/
Former cutter with 53 people on board disabled off Büsum
On July 29, 2026, at around 12:00 p.m., the 'Hauke' contacted the sea rescuers of the DGzRS. During a fishing excursion with 50 passengers on board, the three crew members had been unable to haul the full, heavy net onto the deck. Upon attempting to retrieve it, they discovered that the net had torn and was now hanging beneath the vessel. The lifeboat 'Theodor Storm' immediately headed to the converted shrimp cutter, which was drifting without propulsion just over a nautical mile outside Büsum harbor. Given that the net was about ten meters long, there was a risk it could get caught in the cutter's propeller, rendering the ship unmaneuverable and causing it to drift onto a shoal. In perfect summer weather and calm seas, the rescuers took the 'Hauke' in tow and pulled it safely back to Büsum.
