Barge got stuck between pillars

Wed Apr 01 18:36:00 CEST 2026 Timsen

On April 1, 2026, shortly after 11 a.m, the 'Imperium', enroute from Antwerp, got stuck between the pillars of the opened Mark Bridge, which carries trains at Zevenbergen. The space between the pillars of the Mark Bridge is 9.10 meters. Due to that difference of 40 centimeters, the ship was stuck fast. ProRail indicated that it proved difficult to free the ship, and that a solution was being sought in cooperation with the fire department and a tugboat company. A night train heading towards Brussels also became stuck at Zevenbergen station due to the jammed ship. The long train had to reverse along the tracks in an attempt to continue its journey to Belgium via Breda and Roosendaal. Trains could not run between Roosendaal and Dordrecht again until around 5:00 p.m. ProRail kept its options open for a while, as it was far from certain whether the Mark Bridge had sustained any damage which would have to be repaired first. A tugcame from the Dintelmond marina near Heijningen to Zevenbergen to get the ship free. Owner Reinier van der Zee indicated that he did not expect the first attempt to succeed immediately, and indeed the towing wire snapped. A second tug was subsequently called in, but it turned out not to be needed after all. Eventually, the salvage vessel 'Runner' of the company run by Van der Zee, BST Dintelsas, managed to free the ship around 4:20 p.m. The ‘Imperium’ proceeded to the port of Dinteloord. That is also where the ship came from. The final destination was actually the Botlek near Rotterdam. Whether the ship has sustained damage must be determined by an insurer in the port of Dinteloord. The ship was inspected for damage in the port of Dinteloord. Train traffic between Roosendaal and Dordrecht resumed at 5 p.m. Report with photos and video: https://www.pzc.nl/dordrecht/sleepboot-krijgt-schip-los-bij-spoorbrug-zevenbergen-treinen-tussen-roosendaal-en-dordrecht-rijden-weer~ad6d7a21/271944366/
