Fish factory troubled off Eigersund

Tue Apr 07 11:43:50 CEST 2026 Timsen

On April 4, 2026, at 2 a.m. the 'Karelia', with 79 crew members on board, suffered engine problems off Svanes in Eigersund. The Coastguard deployed the KV 'Bergen' (IMO: 9389368) to assist, and also the tug 'Farmar Ares' (IMO: 9790945) left Farsund and was heading towards the area, where the Russian factory vessel was NUC in pos. 58° 21' n 006° 0 E. The 'Farmar Ares" along with the "Farmar Arion" (IMO: 9056789) of the Farmar A/S, which had been mobilised too, took the ship in tow. The convoy was monitored by the 'Bergen'. The 'Karelia' was safely berthed at Kauparnes in Eigersund on the evening of April 4 in a joint operation of the Coast Guard, the Norwegian Coastal Administration, the fire department and the tugs of the Farmar Marine Group. A number of agencies with different areas of responsibility were involved in the follow up, as according to Schengen regulations, the police was responsible for controlling the personnel amd customs service for checking what was on board. The Norwegian Armed Forces were responsible for the port control. The trawler remained stationary in port as of April 7. Photos: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1cKjwGRDEX/
