Trawler raised and lifted ashore

Thu Dec 25 20:32:47 CET 2025 Timsen

The 'Kavellig' was hauled ashore on Dec 23, after a day of refloating operations. According to skipper Anthony Le Brun, the damage to the vessel following the allisionwas extremely extensive. On Dec 24 the focus was on assessing the damage at the port of Saint-Guénolé in Penmarc'h. The hull planks were seriously damaged, as were the internal structure and the wheelhouse. The ship's deck was also lifted due to the impact crushed like a barrel. The trawler was likely beyond repair. Trawler sank in triple allision in Saint-Guénolé

Tue Dec 23 20:54:50 CET 2025 Timsen

The trawler ''L'Estran' (MMSI: 227317750) was in allision with two others, the 'Kavellig' and the "Louarn Couz" (MMSI: 227638580), in the fishing port of Saint-Guénolé in Penmarc'h on the early morning of Dec 22, 2025. While reversing it llided with the other fishing boats that were moored alongside each other. The "Kavellig" was struck broadside and sank. The "Louarn Couz" was also damaged. It was moored alongside the quay between the quay and the "Kavellig" and suffered leaks. There was no one on board and no one was hurt. Initial operations to refloat the sunken trawler were attempted on the morning of Dec 23. "Balloons were positioned under the hull to raise it, but it didn't work because it was low tide and there wasn't enough water. A large pollution containment boom has been deployed by the fire department to prevent pollution, as there was oil and fuel oil on board. A second salvage attempt took place on the early afternoon, during which the "Kavellig" was refloated alongside the quay. But the operation failed once more, as the ship has sunk again after the inflatable tubes have burst. A crane is attempting to right the vessel, but for now, it remained completely submerged. Divers were also on site. This delayed operation also had consequences for dealign with the "Louarn Couz" which was scheduled to be lifted by crane and transported with the assistance of the SNSM Saint-Guénolé station for repairs.
