Sat Aug 01 10:04:44 CEST 2026 Timsen

The KM 'Prince Soya' caught fire at Nusantara Port in Parepare City, South Sulawesi on July 13, 2026, at around 09:20 a.m. WITA (Central Indonesian Time). Smoke was spotted coming from the ferry. Panicking passengers tried to exit the ship. The fire originated in the cook's quarters and had quickly spread to the galley. Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze about 30 minutes. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, and an investigation was launched. The Parepare Harbormaster and Port Authority (KSOP) authorised the 'Prince Soya' to sail again on July 14, after the KSOP conducted a seaworthiness inspection of the vessel. The ship was finally able to depart for Samarinda, East Kalimantan, at approximately 3:00 p.m., carrying 1,251 passengers.
