Training ship of the Veere Sea Cadet Corps was vandalised

Mon Dec 08 09:26:02 CET 2025 Timsen

Between Dec 1 and the evening of Dec 3, 2025, the HNLMS 'Lacomblé', the training ship of the Veere Sea Cadet Corps was vandalised with smashed portholes, ripped electrical wiring, broken doors, and demolished communication equipment:. almost all the bridge windows have been smashed, .several windows above deck have also been shattered, the chartroom has been broken into, and electronics. The radar was destroyed. Someone has even attempted to breach a wall. The camera footage has been requested and a report has been filed with the police. The perpetrator has not yet been arrested. However, there is some suspicion as to where the incident might have come from. The damage amounted into thousands of euros, and the youth club almost had to close down, but this was not the case mainly due to all the support that has been forthcoming, including a crowdfunding campaign started by the Veere gunners. On Dec 6, the sea cadets in Veere began the initial cleanup and repair work. Help was now pouring in from all sides. The HNLMS 'Lacomblé' is a former minesweeper from 1960, which was then used by the Royal Netherlands Navy. In 1984, the ship was loaned to the Netherlands Sea Cadet Corps. In 2022, it arrived in Veere, giving Zeeland a Sea Cadet Corps again after a 14-year absence. At the Sea Cadet Corps, teenagers not only learn to sail, they also maintain the ship. For now, the ship will remain moored as it did for the past two years due to repairs in the engine room. The cadets were only able to sail again since last summer. Now the ship needs to be repaired again.
