Medevac of injured crew member off Algeciras

Mon Oct 13 13:12:53 CEST 2025 Timsen

The 'Leto', enroute from Algeciras to Tanger-Med, requested the urgent medical evacuation of a crew member who had fallen five metres deep into a cargo hold on Oct 11, 2025, at 8.30 a.m. neart the port of Algeciras. The man was conscious but remained in serious condition. The CCS of Salvamento Martítimo in Algeciras center ruled out the medevac by helicopter due to the presence of containers overhead, which made an airlift, difficult, and instead mobilized the SAR boat 'Salvamar Denébola'. Rescue personnel lowered the crew member on a stretcher to the 'Salvamar Denébola' using a crane at around 10:25 a.m., and he disembarked at 10:40 a.m. at the port of Algeciras, where 061 services assessed the injured man's condition.
