Iran hit brand new Dynacom tanker in Strait of Hormuz
On Oct 4, 2026, Iran hit the 'Lipsi' in the Strait of Hormuz, a brand new LR2 linked to a Greek operator and a Chinese owner. The vessel sustained engine room damage. All crew were reported to be safe. A Navarea IX alert said the tanker was drifting approximately 3.9 nautical miles northeast of Jazirat Um Al Fayarin. The aframax was only delivered to the Greek Dynacom Tankers Management in August and was on its maiden voyage. Delivered on Aug 24 by the Shanhaiguan Shipbuilding, the vessel was essentially at the very beginning of its commercial service life when it came under attack on Oct 4. Dynacom was one of a small number of companies that has consistently risked Strait of Hormuz transits since the war between the US and Iran broke out at the end of February. Over the past week, the pace of successful Iranian strikes has approached a rate of nearly one tanker per day, putting pressure on the steady flow of tanker traffic through the waterway, which had recently rebounded to more than 12 million barrels per day - enough to restore total Gulf export volume to nearly prewar levels, as the U.S. has ceased all counterattacks on the Iran-linked merchant fleet.
