Ferry suffered ramp failure
Due to a technical malfunction, the 'Maria Buono' could not leave the port of Casamicciola on Ischia on Sep 4, 2026. The ferry was scheduled to depart for the port of Pozzuoli. On board were over 100 passengers and approximately 30 cars and commercial vehicles, which were transferred to another vessel bound for Naples. The departure was planned for 4:50 p.m., but the loading ramp remained down ahead of the departure, blocking the ship. The crew was working to resolve the issue. The malfunction of the Medmar vessel also caused a delay in the departure of a Caremar ferry, which was also bound for Pozzuoli. These delays were also affecting departures from the port of Pozzuoli.
Allision in Casamicciola
The "Maria Buono" allided with a quay in the port of Casamicciola on June 17, 2017, at 9.30 a.m., during the mooring maneuver. The ship had sailed from Pozzuoli at 8.15 a.m. Several of the passengers who were waiting to disembark fell ont othe deck when the ship bumped against the quay while going astern, being unable to stop in time due to what was thought to have been a technical failure. Chairs have flown, haunted passengers have ended up with other passengers, and some paniced, fearing an attack. 55 of them suffered slight injuries such as minor traumas, light bruises and even anxiety, and were cared for at the Rizzoli hospital in Lacco. A woman with ambulance aid was reported to have suffered a slight cervical trauma. The ship was detained by the porr master for technical inspections. It had suffered some damage at the stern above and below the water line. Also the dock and the neighboring infrastructures were damaged. RINA inspectors were sent to the port for investigations. The next ferry departures from Casamicciola were cancelled. All hydrofoil departures took place as scheduled. The ferry "Benito Buono" replaced the ship which was unloaded and then left the quay. It berthed at 4.30 p.m. in Naples for repairs.
