Death on board

Wed Mar 04 13:12:55 CET 2026 Timsen

A passenger died aboard the 'Marina on March 3, 2026, which had docked at the Luis Piedra Buena pier in Puerto Madryn. The vessel was sailing a regional itinerary that included a planned visit to the Falkland Islands, where the guest had originally been scheduled to disembark for medical reasons. The passenger’s health had been deteriorating during the voyage. As his condition worsened, the ship’s crew decided to bring the ship’s arrival to Puerto Madryn forward in order to seek assistance. The ship’s medical team followed emergency protocols while coordinating with Argentine maritime authorities and health officials once the vessel reached port. Despite those efforts, the passenger passed away while the ship was docked. The corresponding protocol for these types of situations was activated, which included the intervention of the competent authorities and the organsation of the body's transfer to its place of origin. Preliminary examinations indicated the death was due to natural causes, with no signs of external involvement or suspicious circumstances. The investigation was carried out according to maritime and health procedures under the supervision of the Argentine Naval Prefecture, which oversees port and maritime operations in the country. The 'Marina' had entered the port early, although its operations proceeded normally. Scheduled excursions took place as planned, and the ship was scheduled to depart at 5:00 p.m. for Montevideo and Buenos Aires. Despite the reported death, tourist activities related proceeded without incident.
