Egine room fire in Göhren
On March 29, 2026, swhite smoke was noticed coming from the exhaust vent on the port side of the "Mönchgut," which was scheduled to depart for the chalk cliffs of Rüge, at around 11:30 a.m., during the preparations for departure from the Göhren/Rügen pier. There were 24 passengers and five crew members on board, who were planning to undertake a nine-hour excursion from Peenemünde along the cliffs to the Königsstuhl (King's Chair). Scheduled stops included Göhren, Sellin, and Binz. For safety reasons, all passengers were asked to disembark, and the fire department was alerted. The crew discovered smoke in the engine room and a fire in the area of the exhaust vent. Attempts by the crew to extinguish the fire with a powder extinguisher were unsuccessful. The fuel supply to the engines was then shut off, and the engine room was flooded with carbon dioxide, using the ship's own fire suppression system. This knocked out the fire. The incident was documented by a boat crew of the water police. The investigation into the cause of the fire was ongoing. The maritime safety authority, having been notified, issued a sailing ban on the vessel, but authorised a one-time towing to a shipyard with the assistance of a tug. On March 29 at 9.30 p.m. UTC the ship was taken to the Peene Shipyard in Wolgast, where it arrived on March 30 at 6 a.m. The damage was estimated to be around 10.000 Euro. All sailings were cancelled for the time being. The Adler shipping company has changed the schedule at short notice. Trips to the chalk cliffs were offered on the 'Binz', starting on March 30. The departures were scheduled for 11:00 a.m. in Göhren, 11:30 a.m. in Sellin, and 12:30 p.m. in Binz.
Storm gust pushed ship aground
In the evening of Aug 3, 2017, the "Mönchgut" ran aground with 37 passengers off Freest. A storm gust with up to 117 km/h had pushed the ship out of the fairway. It was unable to get back with own power. The DGzRS lifeboat "Heinz Orth" was called to assist and pulled the ship back into deeper water. It was able to continue the voyage towards Peenemünde upon Usedom unassisted. There was no threat for passengers nor crew.
Möchsgut aground off Peenemünde
On June 19, 2015, the "Mönchsgut" first got off course and then stuck in the narrow fairway of the Peene. Winds pushed the ship onto the shallow so that it could not refloat with own means, and the lifeboat "Eugen" of the DGzRS Station Greifswalder Oie was called to assist. It managed to pull of the passenger ship within short time. It returned to Peenemünde then. None of the 16 passengers were injured.
