Barge tore down power line
On the morning of Oct 11, 2025, the 'Inn' with an extended crane tore down the control cable of a high-voltage power line on the Main River near Viereth-Trunstadt in the Bamberg district. Thr ship was attempting to dock at the Viereth lock around 8:00 a.m. A deckhand was attempting to lift a sailor's car onto the bank with the ship's crane because he wanted to go shopping. The man allegedly misjudged the distance of the extended crane from the high-voltage power line on land. The crane caught the control cable and tore it off. The steel cable was severed, falling into the water for a length of approximately 60 meters. A section of the cable also shot up onto the power line. The neighbouring communities of Viereth, Trosdorf, and Oberhaid were without power for the next hour. Exactly how many households were affected was unknown. The power has been restored the same daz. Vessel traffic was suspended at the scene of the accident. Emergency crews spent several hours removing the power line from the water. No one was injured in the accident. The captain will now face a fine. The extent of the damage was initially unclear. The 'IOnn' departed from Hanau on Oct 13, next headed to Antwerp with an ETA as of Oct 18.
