Wreck of luxury yacht raised
The 'Angiola' has been salvaged off the coast of Costa Smerald and taken to Olbia on Sep 4, using a large pontoon, support vessels and specialised equipment. The operation was carried out by the Costruzioni Marittime ed Edili di Porto Rotondo, Stemar Porto Cervo and Marina di Porto Massimo- La Maddalena and coordinated by Renato Mela, under the supervision of the La Maddalena Port Authority, with the crane ship 'HEBO Lift II' (IMO: 9829019), which had been called from Rotterdam for the salvage operation and commenced its work on Sep 3. The wreck was transported to La Maddalena. The yacht had reportedly been delivered to a new owner just four days before her sinking. Amer Yachts previously clarified that Angiola was a used yacht that had changed hands several times, with the most recent sale between private individuals handled by brokers outside the shipyard. After the sinking, floating containment booms had been placed around the yacht, with no signs of pollution or fuel leakage reported. Luxury yacht sank off Costa Smeralda after fire
The 'Angiola' sank off Porto Cervo in the waters between Isla de la Cappuccini and Capo Ferro on the Costa Smeralda on the evening of Aug 11, 2026. An engine failure had caused a fire in the seals of the engine compartment. The flames were contained quickly, but the damage still caused water to seep into the hull, causing the vessel to lose buoyancy and ultimately sink. The ship capsized and came to rest at a water depth of approximately seven meters on its starboard side. There were 14 people on board, including guests and crew. 12 of them were transferred to another vessel sailing nearby at the time of the emergency, while the owner and a friend initially had remained aboard, awaiting rescue. The La Maddalena Port Authority patrol boat 'CP 870' left the port at around 6:30 p.m. and complete the evacuation, transporting the rescued people to Poltu Quatu. The castaways were taken to Poltu Quatu. No injuries were reported. The La Maddalena Coast Guard responded to the incident. Containment booms have been placed around the yacht, with no fuel leakages reported so far. The operations to secure the yacht on site lasted about three hours. A salvage company has been contacted by the owner, tasked with salvaging the vessel using a tug and a pontoon with a capacity of approximately 200 tons. The exact causes of the initial failure remained unclear at this stage. The yacht was valued at 9 million Swiss francs. It was delivered to its owner, an Italian businessman, four days before the incident. The 'Angiola' was launched by the Italian shipyard Permare under the Amer Yachts brand, in July 2020 as the 6th hull in the Amer F100 series (previously known as the Amer Cento series). She was previously known as 'The Limbo' and 'Arsana'.
