Reefer caused pollution

The "Nelson Star" on Nov 25, 2011 caused a pollution of water with heavy fuel on the outer Elbe. At 9.20 p.m. the seal of a pipe on the upper deck broke, and about 700-800 liters of heavy fuel spilt from the deck of the ship. An unknown amount of it ran down the hull. The incident was reported by the ship's master. The ship sailed to Cuxhaven in order to have it cleaned and moored at the Sea Bath Pier on Nov 26 at 8 p.m. Here also the first investigation was carried out by the water police Hamburg. During an inspection of the sea area on Nov 26 the multi-purpose vessel "Neuwerk" could no longer detect any water contamination. The responsible persons on board the ship were obliged to pay a guarantee of 15,000 Euro by prosecutors in Flensburg .
