Man injured in workplace accident

A worker was injured in an accident on the 'Ningbo Express' at the Ballin Quay terminal in the Altenwerder port of Hamburg on May 7, 2026, at around 7:45 p.m. The man fell into a shaft on the ship and apparently suffered head and arm injuries and broke his hand. The worker was said to have suffered moderate to serious injuries. Since it was initially unclear how the injured man could be removed from the ship, the fire department's high-angle rescue team was dispatched in addition to the ambulance service. A rescue helicopter with another emergency physician was also called in. At one point, it was considered whether the man might need to be rescued from the air by winch. Finally, he was able to be brought off the ship with a rescue basket. A total of two emergency physicians were on site. The injured was subsequently taken to a hospital.
