Allision off Brunsbüttel
On May 31, 2026, an allision occurred between the heavy lift transporter 'UHL Fresh' (IMO: 9972505), enroute from Eemshaven to Mukran, with the 'Nordic Italia', bound from Antwerp to Helsinki, on the northwest anchorage of the Kiel Canal off Brunsbüttel. At 5:43 a.m., the heavy-lift vessel passed the anchored container ship, approaching from the sea, also intending to moor at the anchorage at a slow speed. The slow speed and the resulting displacement due to the outgoing tide led to the allision. The port stern of the 'UHL Fresh' struck the starboard bow of the 'Nordic Italia'. Both vessels sustained damage approximately six meters above the waterline. No one was injured, and no fuel was spilled. The German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BG Verkehr) has issued a sailing ban on both vessels until their respective classifications were confirmed. The water police filed a report on the accident. At 6.20 p.m., the 'Nordic Italia' resumed its voyage with an ETA at Helsinki as of June 3, followed by the 'UHL Fresh' at 9.30 p.m. which berthed in Mukran on June 1.

The GAMA has informed the European Commission through EMCIP and requested the necessary evidence from the ship and its company for analysis.
