Engine failure on the Hunte
On Sep 1, 2026, the master of the 'Nordwind' reported an engine failure on the Hunte river between Buttlerhörne and Hollersiel. An emergency anchoring maneuver, initiated immediately, prevented the vessel from running aground. The crew was subsequently able to restart the main engine on their own. The inland vessel was permitted to continue its voyage to Oldenburg, subject to the requirement of being accompanied by a vessel from the Waterways and Shipping Authority (WSA), the 'Drielake' (ENI: 05038140). An officer from the Brake Water Police issued an order prohibiting the master from continuing the voyage until the main engine had undergone a technical inspection. As a result of the incident, the Hunte maritime waterway was closed for approximately three hours. The 'Nordwind' left Oldenburg again on Sep 4 and arrived in Bremen the same day.
