Unexploded missile removed, repairs of missile damage completed

Fri Jun 12 11:47:38 CEST 2026 Timsen

On June 11, the 'Olympic Life' left the anchorage off Kochi enroute to Singapore with an ETA as of June 18 after repairs of the missile damage. After the strike, the Indian Navy's EOD specialists had to carefully remove an unexploded missile from inside the hull of the the tanker, which had departed Fujairah in late May, bound for Kochi. On May 26, the crew reported an explosion from a missile attack. The ship sustained a substantial hole in the side and retained an unexploded - likely Iranian- missile inside the hull, but was able to continue the voyage. It arrived off Kochi on May 31 and moored in pos. Lat. 10.1209 Lng. 75.9926. The crewi nformed the Indian authorities that the tanker had a missile embedded somewhere below the deck, and the message got passed on to the Southern Naval Command. The command dispatched an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team to the site at the port of Kochi to address the problem. The missile had punched through multiple bulkheads and had lodged itself in a fuel tank. To extract the missile without causing an explosion, the EOD team had to carefully evaluate the device and its surroundings, then isolate its detonator to ensure that it could not go off during handling. Once this was completed, they extracted the warhead and the remains of the missile's airframe. All recovered components were taken to a storage site for thorough inspection.s Reports with photos: https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/navy-removes-unexploded-warhead-from-struck-ship/articleshow/131668715.cms https://x.com/indiannavy/status/2065074126759628935 https://www.newindianexpress.com/india/2026/Jun/11/indian-navy-recovers-missile-warhead-lodged-inside-tankers-fuel-tank
