Pilot boat ran aground on Kiel Fjord

On Apil 1, 2026, the 'Laboe', with two people on board, ran aground on a sandbank off Laboe. No one was injured in the accident on the Kiel Fjord. Shortly before 9:00 a.m., the pilot boat had left the port of Laboe, intending to take a sea pilot to a ship. After barely 200 meters, the journey came to an abrupt end on the beach in front of the promenade in dense fog. The DGzRS lifeboat "Berlin" set sail from the station in Laboe and launched its daughter boat, "Steppke." Since it quickly became clear that there were no injuries, preparations were made for towing the boat away. The tug "Falckenstein," belonging to the Kiel Towing and Ferry Company (SFK), arrived on scene at 10:00 a.m. A towline was attached to the pilot boat. At 10:30 a.m., the "Falckenstein" was able to pull the "Laboe" back into deeper water. Afterward, the "Berlin" took over the pilot boat and transported it to the Gebr. Friedrich shipyard in Kiel-Friedrichsort.
