Gulet yacht sank after fire off Fethiye

Wed Jul 22 10:42:28 CEST 2026 Timsen

The 'Princess Alize' has been destroyed by a fire in Göcek on July 20, 2026. The gulet yacht was anchored in the Hammam Bay, a cove in the island area of Fethiye, when the blaze broke out at approximately 5.30 a.m. on 20 July, after an explosion, which was thought to have originated from the yacht's batteries. The yacht's crew were evacuated with no reported injuries. There were no guests on board at the time of the incident. The Turkish Coast Guard deployed the lifeboat 'Kiyem 5', and also local port authority response units attended the scene. The fire was extinguished approximately two hours later, but the vessel had suffered extensive damage and sank. The affected sea area was cleaned by TÜÇA, DERİA and MAPA Şamandıra as part of an environmental response by the local government. An investigation into the cause of the fire was launched.
