Grounding off Tekirdağ
On July 13, 2026, at noon, the 'Regalo', enroute from Rio Grande with 20 crew members and a cargo of 27,500 tonnes of rice on board, ran aground in the Sea of Marmara off Ceyport, while approaching Tekirdağ. It got stuck in pos. 40° 58' N 027° 31' E. Teams from the General Directorate of Coastal Safety and the Coast Guard were dispatched to the area. While measures were taken to ensure the safety of maritime traffic in the vicinity of the vessel, efforts to refloat the ship with tugs were commenced. There were no casualties, injuries, or marine pollution as a result of the incident. On July 17, the ship was refloated by the tugs 'Kurtarma 10' (IMO: 9598593 ) and 'Kurtarma 14' (IMO: 9913585), assisted by the lifeboat 'Kiyem 4'. The force of the tugs damaged a bollard on the stern of the 'Regalo', which was taken to Tekirdağ following a hull inspection by divers of Coastal Safety. It was safely anchored in pos. 40° 58' N 027° 31' E, and remained stationary at the mooring as of July 20. The investigations into the cause of the grounding of the bulk carrier were ongoing.
