Thu Aug 13 16:05:24 CEST 2026 Timsen

After its collision with the canal ferry 'Swinemünde' (MMSI-No.: 211445220; CS DBKB) near the ferry berth Fischerhütte in the Kiel Canal in the foremidday of Dec 1, the 'Kitty C' sailed from the South Quay in Brunsbüttel on Dec 3 at 1.45 a.m., bound for Hamburg, where it docked at the quay of the HaBeMa Futtermittel GmbH & Co. KG in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg around 7 a.m. Before the collision, the ship had come from Rendsburg and the grain terminal in Tilbury. Probably the ship will undergo repairs in Hamburg too. The 'Swinemünde' remained at the ferry berth Fischerhütte and was to proceed to Rendsburg for repairs in the run of the week.

Kitty C collides with Ferry Swinemünde at ferry-point Fisherhütte in Kiel-Canal

Sun Dec 02 11:21:54 CET 2012 arnekiel

A cargo ship has got out of control in the Kiel Canal and forcefully rammed a ferry. People were not injured in the accident near Brunsbüttel, said a spokesman of the water police. The 100 meter long cargo vessel "Kitty C." was reported to be directly on the pier of ferry station Fischerhütte. At the last second the crew of the "Swinemünde" save their lives with a jump ashore. The force of the collision was so strong that the bridge of the ferry house was bent to the side. A number of mounting piles at the jetty was pressed with lighting under the ferry. The ferry had been badly damaged and went to repair in the shipyard. The cargo ship had only light damage above the water line and was able to continue on. Cause of the accident was human error, according to initial investigations.
