Vehicles carrier broke lose in storm
On the early morning hours of June 20, 2026, severe weather caused all of the bow lines of the 'Silver Ray' to break in the port of Emden. They gave way under wind gusts exceeding 150 km/h, given their large surface area exposed to the wind, even though the captain had ordered the deployment of several additional bow and stern lines in anticipation of the storm. As a result, the nearly vessel went adrifted. Only the deployment of several tugs and the dropping of both bow anchors prevented the ship from completely going adrift in the port basin and allowed it to be safely moored alongside the pier. The Emden Water Police launched an investigation. The ship left Emden the same day enroute to Bremerhaven.
