Allision with Sungai Johor Bridge
The 'SMF Ixora' allided with the Sungai Johor Bridge in Kota Tinggi at kilometre 48.9, saiking westbound, along the Penawar-Pasir Gudang stretch, on Sep 2, 2026. The incident occurred shortly after the vessel was launched from the Benzmark Marine Shipyard. A tug had been assigned to escort and control the tanker, but strong currents and winds pushed the vessel towards the bridge. The escorting tug lacked sufficient power to redirect or stop it. The tanker struck the bridge structure at around 2:30 p.m. Two additional tugs arrived on scene, and the vessel was removed by approximately 3:16 p.m., before being safely anchored. The bridge was declared safe for use, as it had suffered only minimal damage, and remained open to traffic, according to Senai-Desaru Expressway Berhad (SDEB). SDEB had taken immediate action by conducting inspections and assessments of the bridge’s structural condition, following the incident.
