Tug in danger of sinking

Wed Dec 16 10:18:51 CET 2015 Timsen

On Dec 14, 2015, the "Spence" was reported disabled, adrift and taking on water in pos. 12 10N 075 38W about 85 miles north of Barranquilla in the Caribbean Sea. The tug was en route from Cartagena to Guantanamo when it lost propulsion power and suffered power loss and water ingress with big danger of sinking. The crew dragged the engine compartment, which was totally flooded, and requested assistance from the local authorities. A tug along with a rescue boat arrived at the scene of the accident. The salvors started towing the "Spence" to Colombia with dead slow ahead speed, trying to keep the ship afloat. The crew of the tug Spence was safe in good health and without injuries. The weather was moderate with winds and swell, which additionally worsened the situation.
