Medevac off Puerto Rico

Tue Oct 27 21:06:58 CET 2026 Timsen

A Coast Guard Air Station Borinquen MH-60T Jayhawk aircrew conducted a medical evacuation of a passenger from the 'Star Pride' approximately 150 nautical miles north of Puerto Rico, on Oct 26, 2026. The patient, an 81-year-old man experiencing a medical emergency, required a higher level of care at a shoreside hospital. Sector San Juan watchstanders initially received the urgent medical evacuation request from the 'Star Pride' on Oct 24 at approximately 5 p.m., when the vessel was located roughly 900 nautical miles north of Puerto Rico. After maintaining continuous communications with the ship and monitoring the medical situation over the weekend, a MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter crew launched to rendezvous with the 'Star Pride' at 3 p.m. Upon arriving on scene, the aircrew executed a precision hoist operation to safely lift the patient and the ship’s nurse from the cruise ship. Following the hoist, the crew transported the patient directly to the Centro Médico Médico Hospital in San Juan for advanced medical care. Cruise ship cleared to sail after inspection

Sun Sep 09 18:37:33 CEST 2018 Timsen

The U.S. Coast Guard cleared the "Star Pride" after it passed an inspection, and it was back on its way to New York in the morning of Sep 8 to make its maiden docking in Manhattan. There were more than 350 people - 191 passengers and 160 crew members - on board when the ship became stranded the previous afternoon off Cuttyhunk Island. There was a strong vibration for about five or 10 seconds, then the cabin lights went out, and the ship slowed down and became adrift. During the time the ship was without propulsion, the "Star Pride" was on emergency generator power including power to navigational equipment and essential safety systems as well as basic comforts for the passengers and crew. Around 9 p.m. the ship was on the move to Newport, Rhode Island, where it was inspected.
