Seized tankers may be heading to US

Fri Sep 25 19:10:43 CEST 2026 Timsen

The 'Tifani' and 'Majestic X', which were both interdicted by American naval forces in the Iran War, were just weeks away from reaching the US, where authorities have pledged to seize the vessels and millions of dollars worth of crude that they’re transporting. The tankers have skirted the coast of Brasil over the past week. A third interdicted tanker was heading west into the Atlantic after rounding the Cape of Good Hope.  The seizures captivated the market at the time as the US imposed a strict blockade on Iran’s oil exports. The ships initially changed direction multiple times in the Indian Ocean, and it was unclear where they would eventually go.  In April, the Justice Department had initiated a forfeiture process against the 'Tifani' and 'Majestic X', which was also known as Phonix. The ships were boarded near Sri Lanka earlier that month. Law enforcement agents executed federal warrants to seize the tankers and the roughly four million barrels of Iranian oil they had been carrying. The third tanker, known as 'Lenore' and 'Davina', was intercepted in the Indian Ocean in June.  Based on the precedent of US actions in Venezuela, the ships will likely go to the US.  If they sailed to a US port, they would mark the first Iranian oil to reach American shores since consignments brought under an earlier forfeiture process in 2023, data from the Energy Information Administration show. Around that time, the US ordered a tanker carrying China-bound Iranian crude to divert to the US. In past cases where tankers have been seized, the US administration has attempted to sell the captured vessels and oil for a profit. To make that possible, the Justice Department has employed asset forfeiture as a legal tool to seize property said to be linked to criminal activity, often through proceedings against the asset itself rather than an individual.

US Navy stopped sanctioned and stateless tanker

Tue Apr 21 18:37:05 CEST 2026 Timsen

On the night of April 20, 2026, the US military has seized the 'Tifani', enroute from Dongjiakou to Singapore for orders, which has been sanctioned for smuggling Iranian crude oil. They stopped the vessel in the Indo-Pacific and dropped off US marines by helicppter without incident in the Bay of Bengal, between Sri Lanka and Indonesia. The tanker was carrying around two million barrels of crude oil, which had been loaded at Kharg Island earlier in April. It had crossed Dondra Head on April 19 and entered South-East Asian waters on April 20. It was sailing at a speed of around six knots on April 21. The interception occurred under US INDOPACOM's area of responsibility. The INDOPACOM is the US Indo-Pacific Command, responsible for the Indian and Pacific oceans and surrounding areas.  In the past, the 'Tifani' has sailed under multiple flags including Malaysia, St. Kitts and Nevis, Tanzania, Cameroon, Panama and Palau. Its current flag is listed as “not known”. The Pentagon, when it announced its forces had boarded the ship, called the vessel “stateless.” Report with photo amd video: https://www.rudaw.net/english/world/210420262-amp https://nypost.com/video/us-forces-intercept-sanctioned-vessel-linked-to-iran-in-overnight-operation/

Medevac off Galveston

Sun Nov 11 15:53:56 CET 2018 Timsen

The US Coast Guard medevaced a 66-year-old man approximately 92 miles offshore of Galveston, Texas, in the morning of Nov 9, 2018. Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a request from the captain of the "Bunga Kastori" stating their chief engineer was having difficulty breathing and was in need of medical assistance. Watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon who recommended the medevac. A Coast Guard Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew and a Coast Guard Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrew were launched to the scene. The helicopter crew hoisted and transferred the crewmember to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at Scholes International Airport in Galveston. Weather on scene was reported as 1-foot seas with 10 mph winds.
