Insurance compensation paid after constructive total loss
The owner of the 'Trogir', which was seriously damaged, en route from Iskendrun, off the coast of Djibouti on Dec 8, 2025, the Jadroplov company from Split, was paid insurance compensation for the total loss, and the wreck was left to the insurer. The ship had reached Djibouti with the help of a tug after the flooding, and the insurer of the ship's hull and machinery subsequently declared it a structural total loss. The expected insurance compensation amounted to a total of seven million dollars. Given that the book value at the end of the first quarter amounted to 3,1 million Euros, the insurance payment for Jadroplov represented a significant gain that exceeded the value at which the ship was recorded in the business books. The ship was fully recycled in the port of Aliaga, in accordance with the Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships of 2009, as well as the European Union Ship Recycling Regulation of 2013. Recycling had commenced on May 22. The 'Trogir' was purchased by Jadroplov in 2007 and was the oldest ship in the Jadroplov fleet, which consisted of three bulk carriers, the 'Solin', 'Sveti Dujam' and 'Peristil' as well as two LPG carriers, the 'Marko Marulić' and 'Vis', after the CTL of the 'Trogir'.

Bulk carrier suffered water ingress in Gulf of Aden
On Dec 9, 2025, the 'Trogir', enroute from Iskenderun to Djibouti with 22 crew members and a cargo of iron ore on board, was disabled in the Gulf of Aden due to water ingress from the stern and a partiallly flooding of the engine room, resulting in a complete blackout and loss of propulsion. Upon the request for assistance, the salvage tug 'Giant' (IMO: 9255907), which has been stationed in Djibouti since July, partly as a response to Houthi assaults on shipping over the past two years, embarked on its first salvage operation since its arrival in the region. It took the bulk carrier in tow and pulled it out of the high risk area. The 'Trogir' reached Djibouti Roads and was anchored in pos. 11° 41' N 043° 09' E on Dec 12, where a salvage team from Athens went on board the vessel. The crew on board was safe and in good health.
