Cargo ship damaged near Azov

Tue Jul 21 21:09:23 CEST 2026 Timsen

On July 10, 2026, the 'Turbo SM', with an Azerbaijanian crew on board, was damaged in an Ukrainian drone attack in the Azov Sea. The vessel suffered impacts to its bow and upper structure, while its stern rudder was completely torn off. The captain, his assistants, and all other crew members were citizens of Azerbaijan. No one was injured. Thick plumes of smoke rising from the area where the vessel was moored. The extent of the damage to the ship and any possible casualties have not been officially confirmed. The ship was operated by the “Aressa Shipping Ltd.” as 'Aressa', formerly the 'Baltiyskiy-103', when in 2020, a ton of cocaine was found on it, which was being transported from Venezuela to Greece. The ship was detained during a joint operation in the Caribbean island of Aruba by a joint police operation of the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Montenegro and other countries. Having been renamed 'Turbo SM' and registered under the flag of the Comoros, it carried out transportation in the Black and Mediterranean Seas, but not only between Russian, Greek and Turkish ports, but also with illegal calls to Abkhazia, as well as to Russia-occupied Kerch.
