Paddle steamer collided with workboat

Fri Sep 04 18:05:48 CEST 2026 Timsen

On Sep 4, 2026, the workboat 'Our Fortune' was damaged in a collision with the 'Waverley', which was enroute to Eastbourne. The paddle steamer was assisted by local work boats to help it berth in Torquay Harbour, in Devon, when the collision occurred. Winds caused the 'Waverley' to move away from the berth, and while assisting the vessel alongside, a workboat was briefly pushed against the Princess Pier. No one was injured and the paddle steamer suffered no damage. The steamship was carrying out a series of cruises along the south coast between Sep 3-22. Repair were commenced in Chatham and expected to be completed by Oct 4, allowing the ship to continue with her Thames sailing programme which operates until Oct 12.

Wed Jun 04 17:52:21 CEST 2025 Timsen

The first trip of the ' Waverley', scheduled from the West this season, had to be cancelled. The world's last seagoing paddle steamer arrived in the Bristol Channel on June 2, 2025,, ready to take passengers from thr Clevedon Pier. But the sailing was cancelled, because a valve on the boiler was broken and needed repairing. It was now hoped this will be done in time for the next trip on June 6. The ship remained sidelined in Cardiff.
