Engine room fire on the Weser
The Porta Westfalica Volunteer Fire Department was alerted to a fire in the engine room of the 'Weser' with four crew members on board on the Weser River in the Lerbeck district, on Nov 25, 2025, at approximately 9:02 a.m. near the Porta gauge. Due to a technical defect, a generator had caught fire, and the crew immediately shut it down. The affected area was sealed off. The fire caused intense heat below deck.. The work boat was moored alongside other vessels and could thus be reached from shore, so that fire boats were not required. The fire department tackled the blaze with a team wearing breathing apparatus and using a foam nozzle. Power and fuel supplies to the generator were shut off, and the fire was quickly extinguished. The fire was declared out at approximately 9:35 a.m., and the hose lines were withdrawn. Small amounts of foam entered the Weser during the operation; and the relevant authorities were notified. Professional fire fighters and volunteer fire brigades from Porta, Barkhausen, Neesen-Lerbeck, Holzhausen, Holtrup-Vennebeck-Costedt, as well as ambulances and the water police were involved in the response. The operation was ended at 9:50 a.m. Report with photos: https://feuerwehr-porta.de/25-11-2025-weser-lerbeck-brand-in-einem-schiff-kann-schnell-geloescht-werden/
