Fishing vessel aground off Schiermonnikoog

On Oct 19, 2026, at around 5 a.m. the 'Grietje-Z 187' got in trouble in the Westgat off Schiermonnikoog, near buoy WG 9B. The vessel was still able to move, but its rudder had failed and was stuck in a single position, leaving the boat impossible to steer. At the request of the Coast Guard, the lifeboat 'Koning Willem I' set out. En route, the situation quickly worsened, as the fishinh vessel ran aground on a sandbank. In consultation with the Coast Guard, the vessel was taken under tow. With the sea hitting the vessels broadside and the fishing vessel rolling heavily, constant vigilance was required.
