Oil spill around tanker wrecks
Satellite imagery from March 14 showed the aftermath of the strike on the tankers at the Basra Oil Terminal in Iraq. A dark slick could be seen spreading near the burned-out 'Zefyros', covering an estimated 5.7 square kilometers of water. Initial assessments suggested that the substance on the surface wa likely fuel oil. The main cargo, believed to be oil condensate or naphtha, appears to have largely burned off during the explosion and fire.
