On March 25, 2026. a large number of Ukrainian drones targeted sites in and around St. Petersburg, including an FSB icebreaker and the Ust-Luga oil terminal. There was significant damage to the key Baltic export facility. The Procect 23550-ice patrol vessel 'Purga' of the Russian Navy was struck and capsized at the quay of the Vyborg Shipbuilding Plant. Its keel was laid in July 2020. The ship was leaning against the Project 22011-oceanographic research vessel 'Vice Admiral Burilichev', which is a part of Russia’s strategy for monitoring and analysing underwater infrastructure. The 'Purga' is a type of armed icebreaker designed for both military and patrol duties in the Arctic. The ships of the class are built to operate year-round in ice up to 1.7 meters thick and can be equipped with, among other things, cannons, machine guns and missile systems, as well as helicopter capacity. The vessel is being built for the Russian Border Guard under the FSB and was scheduled to be completed with assistance from Admiralty Shipyards in St. Petersburg. However, the delivery has already been delayed. The attack is notable as it targets a specialised Arctic vessel and testifies to an increased range of Ukrainian drone operations against Russian infrastructure far from the front lines. The extent of the damage is still unknown, but even limited hull damage could affect the completion of advanced ice-class vessels. Recent weeks have seen a surge in drone attacks on key Russian oil infrastructure by Ukraine. Ukraine struck the port of Primorsk, Russia’s largest oil-loading terminal on the Baltic, earlier this week with long-range drone attacks, igniting a fire at the facility that processes up to 1.5million barrels of oil and oil products per day. Primorsk
Ukraine has struck the port of Primorsk, Russia’s largest oil-loading terminal on the Baltic Sea, with long-range drone attacks, igniting a fire at the facility that processes up to 1.5m barrels of oil and oil products per day on the night of March 22, 2026, as part of a massive coordinated drone assault across multiple Russian regions, with the Russian Defence Ministry claiming 249 Ukrainian UAVs were shot down nationwide. A fuel tank at Primorsk had been damaged, triggering a fire. Firefighting was underway, personnel have been evacuated. The Port of Ust-Luga was also targeted. However, the extent of damage caused to Ust-Luga port remained unclear. Following the attack, the crude oil export activity remained suspended at Port Primorsk on March 23, while oil loadings at the Ust-Luga Port resumed after the authorities lifted a drone attack alert earlier the same day. Primorsk handles around 100m tons of oil and oil products annually, serving as the endpoint of the Baltic Pipeline System and functioning as a critical artery for Russian energy export revenues that continue to fund Moscow’s war effort. Its location – approximately 1,087 kmfrom Ukraine’s nearest border – underlines the growing reach and ambition of Kyiv’s long-range strike capability. The port was first attacked in Sep 2025.
Rotterdam
A fire broke out the morning of March 8, 2026, at a company on Elbe way in the Beneluxhaven in Rotterdam. The fire raged on board a work platform with a crane on it. The platform was situated in the water. Immediately after the fire broke out, a large amount of black smoke was released. The smoke drifted westward, towards the Maasvlakte. Around 11:00 a.m., the fire department gained access to the platform and began extinguishing the various sources of the fire. The extinguishing process took about one hour. It was fought primarily from the water, using a fireboat. Drones were deployed to determine whether it was safe for the fire fiighters to board, The fact that the fire department responded with extensive equipment was not so much due to the severity of the fire, but rather to its location. Port Elizabeth (ZA)
On Jan 12, 2026, at 5.52 p.m., the NSRI Gqeberha was activated, after the South African flagged fishing vessel 'Silver Dorado', whoich had departed the Port of Port Elizabeth earlier, was reported to be ablaze approximately one nautical mile off Noordhoek, Gqeberha, to respond to the NSRI Gqeberha station 6 rescue base, while an NSRI shore crew was directed to respond directly to Noordhoek. At the same time NSRI Gqeberha duty controllers, Telkom Maritime Radio Services, and vessel in the area at the time, intercepted a Mayday call on VHF marine channel 16 from the 'Silver Dorado',- reporting a fire and all 21 crew members preparing to abandon the vessel. The fire had spread fast after being discovered by the skipper. All remaining 20 crew members were in bunks resting in preparation to reaching fishing grounds. The skipper alerted his crew, who were forced to abandon ship without having time to launch their own life-raft, but the skipper was able to dispatch a Mayday distress VHF radio call. The NSRI Gqeberha dispatched NSRI rescue swimmers and the NSRI rescue vehicle to respond to Noordhoek. while the NSRI rescue craft 'Bay Guardian' and 'Rescue 6 Alpha' were launched. EC Government Health EMS and the SA Police Services were alerted and responded to Noordhoek and responded to the NSRI rescue base at the Port of Port Elizabeth. The Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) , the Port Elizabeth Port Control, the (South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) and the MRCC were alerted. The Telkom Maritime Radio Services broadcast an all ships alert on VHF channel 16, relaying the Mayday call, alerting vessels in the area to divert to assist. The fishing vessel 'Leguga', after arriving on the scene, launched its own life-raft to assist fishermen who were in the water near to their burning fishing vessel. At that time, all 21 fishermen had abandoned the burning vessel into the sea. At least another five fishing vessels, which had intercepted the Mayday call and subsequent relayed the calls, arrived on the scene where the 'Leguga' at that stage had managed to recover 12 fishermen from their life-raft and from the sea. The fishing vessel 'Raka' rescued four fishermen, the fishing vessel 'Maverick' rescued four fishermen, and the fishing vessel 'Vulcan' rescued one fisherman. All castaways were safe at 9.20 p.m. NSRI rescue craft, arriving on the scene, found all castaways on the four fishing vessels and transferred them onto the 'Bay Guardian' and in relays by the 'Rescue 6 Alpha' to the NSRI rescue base at the Port of Port Elizabeth. They were medically assessed by EMS paramedics and confirmed to be not injured and requiring no medical care. The still blazing fishing vessel drifted towards Cape Recife, where it grounded at 10.30 p.m. At the time of the incident, the vessel was carrying approximately 14 tonnes of diesel fuel, 100 litres of lubricants, and eight 19kg LPG gas cylinders. No fish cargo was on board. The 'Rescue 6 Alpha' monitored the vessel, predicting her drift and speed,on behalf of the SAMSA. The owners have appointed a salvage and spill response company who were monitoring and attempting to gain access to the vessel. but were hampered at present by the dangerous reef and darkness. Measures were taken to contain potential pollution risks. Cargo checks confirmed hazardous substances onboard, including LPG cylinders. The cause of the fire was to be investigated by the SAMSA and the police. An all ships alert, warning of the navigational hazard at sea, was broadcast by Telkom Maritime Radio Services. Five people were injured in a fire on the historic buy layer 'Kapitän Meyer' (IMO: 8952091) in Wilhelmshaven on Dec 2, 2025. They were taken to a hospital with suspected smoke inhalation. The city-owned museum ship was being prepared for an upcoming shipyard stay at the Jade-Dienst and is intended to serve as a museum ship in the future. Sparks from welding work in the ship's engine room caused the fire. 34 Firefighters battled the blaze and cooled the ship until the early afternoon. The extent of the damage was not yet known.
Murmansk
On March 23, 2026, the prosecutor's office of Murmansk conducted an inspection of compliance with safety legislation during the operation of hydraulic structures of the pier in the village of Liinakhamari in the Murmansk Region and found it was not in operation and in a state of disrepair. There was no technical passport, the boundaries of the facility were not marked, and no inspection has been conducted. Since the property management committee and the Pechenga Municipal District administration failed to take effective measures to correct the violations, the Murmansk transport prosecutor filed a lawsuit. The Pechenga District Court granted the supervisory authority's demands in full and ordered the defendants to correct the violations within 18 months. The rectification of the violations was under review. Report with photo: https://epp.genproc.gov.ru/ru/sztp/mass-media/news/regional/e8436168/

A severe storm that hit the Altınova shipyard area on Jan 8, 2026, at around noon caused a crane to collapse at the Özata Denizcilik Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. (OZATD) shipyard due to the wind, causing great panic among the workers on site. Prior to the incident, weather conditions were closely monitored, and work areas were evacuated as a precautionary measure. The crane lost its balance and workers, noticing the crane collapsing, quickly fled to open areas. There were no fatalities or injuries. Following the incident, there was a brief period of activity in the shipyard area, and security measures were increased. While the effects of the storm continued in the region, work began to remove the overturned crane and assess the damage. The shipyard and all equipment are covered by valid insurance policies. The ship repair and maintenance processes was to be continued as planned, the yard announced. Novorossiysk
Ukraine has claimed it carried out the world’s first successful underwater drone attack on a Russian submarine. The strike allegedly disabled a missile-carrying Project 636.3 Varshavyanka-class submarine, known by NATO as the Kilo class, at the port of Novorossiysk. The submarine is capable of carrying at least four Kalibr cruise missiles, which Russia has frequently used in strikes that caused significant damage to Ukraine’s power infrastructure. The operation was conducted by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), using domestically developed underwater drones known as “Sub Sea Baby”, jointly by its military counterintelligence unit and the Naval Forces of Ukraine. The drones reportedly struck the submarine while it was docked at the port, which has become Russia’s most important remaining naval base in the Black Sea after several ships were relocated from Crimea. Footage released by the SBU showed a powerful explosion erupting from beneath the water near a pier where submarines and other vessels were moored. The SBU stated that the submarine suffered critical damage and was effectively put out of action. Ukrainian officials added that repairing such a vessel would be difficult, as repairs would need to be carried out above water, leaving it exposed to further attacks. Russia claimed that none of the ships or submarines stationed at Novorossiysk were damaged. Satellite images released after the Ukrainian attack were showing damage to a pier near the boat, but the extent of damage to the submarine itself remained unclear. The atellite imagery analyzed by The War Zone (TWZ) and obtained from the commercial provider Vantor showed an explosion site close to the stern of the Project 636 submarine with substantial damage to the pier, while the submarine remained in the same position as before the strike. The blast appeared to have occurred roughly 20 meters from the submarine’s stern. Some imagery suggested that the vessel may be sitting lower in the water, though this could not be confirmed, and any damage below the waterline was not visible in the photos. There were no clear signs of emergency response measures, such as containment booms or salvage operations, which could indicate severe damage. Other submarines previously moored nearby appear to have moved, while additional vessels remain in the port. Russia had four submarines stationed in Novorossiysk, three of which are capable of launching Kalibr missiles. The cost of a Varshavyanka-class submarine was estimated to be around $400 million. International sanctions could raise the cost of replacing such a vessel to as much as $500 million. Sea drones have forced Russia to move several warships and submarines away from Sevastopol in Crimea to ports farther from Ukrainian-controlled waters. Fresh satellite (images from soaratlas.com, dated March 24 at approximately 9:30 p.m. UTC, were clearly showing the scale of the destruction at the Transneft-Port Primorsk oil terminal in the Leningrad region. Following a massive Ukrainian drone assault on the early morning of March 23, a large plume of dense black smoke continued to billow from the site, confirming the severe damage. While Russia claimed to have shot down scores of drones over the region, there was proof of a successful, critical strike. Multiple fuel storage tanks were on fire, and the fire has been raging for over 48 hours. The facility is a vital hub for Russian crude exports in the Baltic, and its operations have been suspended, striking a direct blow to the Kremlin's energy-fueled war economy. The attack occurred in a coordinated campaign by Ukrainian forces to target key Russian energy infrastructure, following previous strikes in the region, including the port of Ust-Luga. The disruption was expected to be lengthy. Photo: https://soaratlas.com/maps/europe-russia-primorsk-141043?pos=60.34973332025183%2C28.664356486825636%2C11.65
Fujairah
Another tanker has been attacked off Fujairah, which followd drone strikes on oil facilities at the port of Fujairah in recent days. The vessel was struck by an unknown projectile on March 16, 2026, at 11:01 p.m. GMT, while at anchor about 23 nautical miles east of Fujairah. Minor structural damage was reported, but there were no crew injuries and there was no impact on the environment. Oil loadings at Fujairah were halted on March 16, the second time in recent days, after a drone strike sparked a fire in the emirate's petroleum industrial zone. Just two days before this, at least two crude storage tanks in Fujairah were damaged, too because of drone strikes.
Novorossiysk
Ukraine has carried on with its campaign of long-range attacks on Russian oil infrastructure. On the night of March 1, 2026, Ukrainian drones have hit an oil terminal at the port of Novorossiysk once again, the latest strike in a series of actions intended to slow down Russia's revenue-generating energy exports.. The attack also damaged four buildings and five private homes. No injuries or fatalities have been reported. The Transneft Sheskharis loading terminal on the east side of the bay, just next to the Vostochnyy Rayon naval harbour, was among the targets. The terminal was previously hit last year, along with Russian energy export infrastructure at nearby Tuapse and Temryuk. Video: https://x.com/i/status/2028254650412003620
Karachi
A fire broke out among containers which were stored at the Karachi International Container Terminal (KICT), a part of Karachi Port, on Jan 16, 2026, at 1.45 p.m. near Gate 20, close to the West Wharf. Thick plumes of smoke from the blaze were visible several kilometres away. Despite a prompt response from firefighting teams of the Karachi Port Truist, Pakistan Navy fire teams, as well as Rescue 1122 and Karachi Shipyard units, at least 20 containers were completely destroyed. A total of 15 fire tenders were deployed, and after a strenuous operation, the blaze was brought under control. Cooling operations continued for several hours to prevent reignition. As a precautionary measure, the port authorities suspended the loading and unloading of two ships, partially affecting port operations. The activities in other areas of the port continued on a limited scale, and all staff were safely evacuated. No injuries or casualties have been reported. At the time of the fire, there were far fewer people present than on other days, as many were observing Friday prayers. While the exact cause of the fire outbreak remained under investigation, reports suggested that the fire originated in one container and may have been triggered or intensified by a lithium-ion battery thermal runaway, spontaneous combustion of chemical cargo, or an electrical short circuit. It then spread rapidly to the adjacent boxes. The affected containers were carrying hazardous materials, including lithium batteries, chemical powders, and electrical equipment.
