Satellite images captured on Nov 25 showed a damaged Russian warship being towed by two tugs in the port of Novorossiysk, following the recent Ukrainian drone attack. The images were published by the OSINT researcher Tom Bike, who assessed that the vessel was likely a large Project 1171 landing ship, and the nature of the ship's movement indicated significant damage. His analysis aligned with previous Ukrainian reports claiming successful attacks against Russian naval infrastructure in the Black Sea region. While the Russian military has not confirmed the attack, the towing operation suggested an operational disruption. The Project 1171 landing ships are designed for amphibious assaults, including the direct deployment of troops and equipment onto unprepared shores. These ships are capable of transporting armoured vehicles, including tanks. The 'Orsk' and the 'Nikolay Filchenkov' were among the ships of this class that remained active in the Russian Black Sea Fleet. The Russian naval forces frequently rotate the positions of ships within ports to reduce the risk of repeated attacks. On Nov 25, Ukraine carried out coordinated long-range attacks against key Russian military and energy infrastructure, including the Beriev Aircraft Plant in Taganrog, home to the A-50 and Tu-95 bombers, which reportedly destroyed the unusual A-60 laser-guided aircraft. Novorossiysk
On the early morning of Nov 14, a Ukrainian drone attack struck areas in the Russian city of Novorossiysk. The seciroty firm Ambrey has confirmed that one of the explosions occurred in a container yard. A crane suffered damage as well as several containers. A non-sanctioned container ship alongside the terminal suffered some collateral damage. Three crew members aboard the vessel were injured when UAV debris fell onto the ship, and received medical attention at a hospital. 51 units of equipment from emergency response teams and 172 personnel were mobilized to combat a large fire at the Sheskharis transshipment complex, adjacent to the port's naval station and being one of Russia’s key crude and oil products hubs, where Transneft's pipelines from inland Russia deposit Urals crude into tankers for export, was brought under control by the emergency crews, though satellite fire-monitoring data reviewed by Ambrey still showed multiple heat signatures around the port. The container terminal of the Delo Group was damaged by falling debris, but continued to operate- Russia’s largest grain terminal, also operated by the Delo Group, was impacted by drone debris, but continued to function. Sevastopol
In the temporarily Russian occupied Sevastopol, a Russian anti-submarine ship of the project 1124-M Albatros-M type of the Russian Black Sea Fleet caught fire on Nov 3 near the pier in Sukharna Bay. The ship could be identified despite the superstructure being covered with camouflage nets. The Russian Black Sea Fleet has four such old ships from the 1980s, the 'Muromets', 'Suzdalets', 'Kasimov' and the 'Yeysk'. Two of them were evacuated in 2024 to the Novorossiysk naval base, and two remained in Sevastopol. Two men, an electrician and a sailor were killed, when the 700 tonne floating crane 'PK-700 - Grigoriy Prosyankin' overturned in the South Bay of the port of Sevastopol in the temporary Russian occupied Crimea on Oct 27, 2025. 20 other people on board at the time were injured, seven of whom remained in hospital. The 'Grigoriy Prosyankin' was launched in 2020 and was intended for maintenance work on naval ships and submarines, but was never completed or went into service. It was undergoing lift tests at the time of the accident. One theory esd that the ballast stabilising system malfunctioned causing the barge to flip over. The crane was scheduled to be deployed at the Sevastopol shipyard. Russia’s Investigative Committee for Crimea and Sevastopol has opened a criminal case relating to safety violations in maritime transport. Hamburg
A container bridge on the Ballin Quay at the Container Terminal Hamburg-Altenwerder went ablaze on Oct 16, 2025, at 9.52 a.m. The fire at the Ballin Quay on the southern bank of the Elbe was reported around 9:50 a.m. Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters rescued several people from the danger zone and handed them over to the emergency services for assessment and medical treatment. Six people were examined by emergency services; no one was injured. The fireboat "Branddirektor Westphal," which was also alerted, was able to immediately begin firefighting with a water cannon. Since the instability of the container crane due to the heat exposure to the steel structure could not be ruled out, firefighting and cooling were initially carried out only from the outside. However, structural engineers and an expert who were called in shortly afterwards gave the all-clear and confirmed the stability of the container crane. The source of the fire was finally finally inspected by emergency personnel wearing breathing apparatus and thermal imaging cameras using a telescopic boom vehicle (TMF70). which has a height of70 meters. Welding work was taking place on the container bridge at the time of the accident. However, the cause of the fire was still unclear. The response continued for five hours with 50 personnel. Fire department experts were on site to check for possible leaks of toxic substances. Rotterdam
Lashers at the port of Rotterdam initiated a 48-hour strike on the afternoon of Oct 7, 2025, bringing container operations to a standstill as workers demand edhigher wages. The work stoppage began at 3:15 p.m. LT and continued until the afternoon of 'Oct 9, effectively paralyzing vessel loading and unloading operations throughout the container port. The FNV labor union confirmed that all employees from International Lashing Services and Matrans Marine Services, the two companies responsible for lashing operations in Rotterdam, were participating in the strike. While the Rotterdam port authority acknowledged the strike would certainly impact traffic, they said it was too early to provide estimates on the full scope of disruptions. Maersk reported that the strike affected all major terminals in Rotterdam, including the APM Terminals Maasvlakte II, Hutchinson Ports Delta II, ECT Delta, and Rotterdam World Gateway. The labour dispute centered on working conditions and compensation for lashing personnel on Terminals in Rotterdam. While terminal infrastructure including tugs and pilots remained operational, vessel operations have been significantly impacted due to the suspension of lashing services, which are essential for the safe securing and release of containers on board vessels.
Zeebrugge
Greenpeace activists blocked the LNG import terminal in Zeebrugge on Oct 1, 2025. The blockade was targeted against LNG being imported from Russia as well as the United States. During the protest, around 70 people from 17 different countries took to the water in kayaks and small craft, blocking the vessels from entering the terminal. The protesters managed to temporarily halt entry into the terminal before being removed. Images from the scene show inflatable mock-ups resembling U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Greenpeace Belgium was urging the EU and national governments to include a ban on Russian LNG in the bloc’s 19th sanctions package, with the goal of ending imports entirely.
Novorossiysk
The Ukrainian military conducted a drone attack on Russia’s oil refinery in the Krasnodar region and the oil terminal in the port of Novorossiysk on the night of Nov 24. The attack targeted an oil refinery and an oil terminal, damaging equipment used for loading and unloading crude onto tankers. Following the attack, the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) suspended its cargo operations at the port. The company stated that the administrative building of the CPC Marine Terminal near Novorossiysk sustained damage as a result of the strike. A Russian A-60 reconnaissance aircraft was also hit in the Beriev military plant. During the attack, also a large Russian landing vessel of the 1171 class, which was moored at the naval base in Novorossiysk, was damaged. Tuapse
Ukrainian naval drones struck the Russian port of Tuapse in the early morning of Nov 10. A ship caught fire, port infrastructure sustained damage, and residents described powerful explosions. Russian officials initially confirmed the drone boat attack. Fuel exports from the harbour were suspended after a previous drone strike onNov 2, and the local oil refinery also shut down operations as a result. This latest incident is part of Ukraine’s broader deep-strike campaign, in which long-range aerial and naval drones are used to target Russian military, defense-industrial, and fuel infrastructure across Russia and occupied territories. The campaign aims to disrupt Russia’s logistics and military fuel chains while cutting off export revenues that help sustain its war against Ukraine. Oil refineries and related facilities have become key targets in this strategy.
Hvide Sande
Hvide Sande Port is taking a new step in its development with the establishment of a modern quay facility in the West Harbour. Zeebrugge
Maritime traffic at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges has been suspended until Octt15, 2025, after the Flemish pilots joined a nationwide strike over federal pension and labour market reforms. The national day of action, declared by trade unions, has halted both seagoing and inland navigation to and from Antwerp since the evening of Oct 13. Due to the actions at the Zandvliet Traffic Control Center, which oversees and coordinates vessel movements in and out of the Port of Antwerp, the traffic has been suspended from Oct 13 at 7:30 p.m. until Oct 15 at 07:30 a.m. Coordination with inbound vessels began on Oct 13 at 1:00p.m. to prepare for the planned suspension, gradually bringing traffic to a halt by 7:30 p.mn. Departure clearances were adjusted in line with the action. During the suspension, no seagoing or inland vessels are allowed to pass through the locks towards the Scheldt River. The Port of Antwerp-Bruges towing service was operating at 50% capacity. Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) and passage planning continued to operate at full capacity. All locks and bridges were functioning normally, with the exception of the Kallo Lock and the Zandvliet Lock, which were temporarily out of service. There were currently 83 inbound and 49 outbound vessels registered. In Zeebrugge, maritime traffic was still possible. However, the pilotage service was not operational, and tender operations with the SWATH vessels have been suspended until Oct 15 at 09:30. a.m. As a result, pilotage was temporarily unavailable. The Vessel Traffic Center Zeebrugge remained fully operational, but large LNG shipping was suspended. Inbound and outbound traffic, shifting operations, and lock usage remained possible for exempted vessels. Regarding congestion, there were currently seven inbound and four outbound vessels registered- The Port of Antwerp has faced growing operational challenges since Oct 5, when the Flemish pilots began work-to-rule actions in protest against the federal government’s proposed pension reforms. The measures limited pilotage to office hours with mandatory rest (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.), and ships were staffed only between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. These restrictions caused growing vessel delays and congestion, with 93 ships lacking confirmed schedules and nearly 20 facing significant delays by Oct 13.
Brunsbuettel
The Kiel Canal suffered another setback. In Brunsbüttel, when the second large chamber was also out of service for hours on Oct 6, 2025. Ships were backed up on the Elbe River and in the canal. The problem was that the only replacement gate for Brunsbüttel was at the German Naval Yard in Kiel. On Sep 19, Brunsbüttel experienced its first nasty surprise, when a malfunction occurred during the opening of the Elbe-sided lock gate of the large northern lock. What initially appeared to be a minor technical defect turned out to be serious damage to the gate's undercarriage, on which the gate, weighing over 1,200 tons, is being pushed. This damage can only be assessed after the gate has been removed. Since the summer, as at least one large lock chamber was constantly out of service. The situation escalated on the afternoon of Oct 6, when, in Brunsbüttel, not only the north lock chamber but also the large south lock chamber failed due to a malfunction in a lock gate. Suddenly, only one small lock remained. A work boat began the repairs, which were expected to last into the evening. During this time, no larger vessels could enter or exit the lock. The situation in Brunsbüttel is more tense than in Kiel, because the chambers, inaugurated in 1914, have been struggling with significant silt ingress since the Elbe River was deepened and the lock island was rebuilt. Added to this, In Brunsbüttel, only one of the two replacement lock gates is still operational. This gate was towed from Brunsbüttel to Kiel in July, where it was to be docked at the German Naval Yards for a year-long overhaul. The gate is now scheduled to return to Brunsbüttel. When this will happen is still unclea, which depends on the weather. Meanwhile, shipping must prepare for enormous waiting times. Ten to 12 hours have been the norm in recent days. The LNG tanker "Green Zeebrugge" (IMO: 9750024) had to abort its voyage to the cruise ship "Aidanova" in Kiel and return to Rotterdam. The "Green Zeebrugge" had already been waiting on the Elbe River off Brunsbüttel for one night. On the morning of Oct 4, the AIDA cruise line canceled the order, and the tanker returned to Rotterdam.
Tuapse
On Sep 25, Russian forces reported the destruction of a Ukrainian unmanned surface vessel near the port of Novorossiysk. The vessel was intercepted and neutralized before it could approach the harbour. No damages to port infrastructure or civilian casualties were reported. The incident marked the latest in a series of maritime confrontations in the Black Sea region. The widespread attack caused authorities in Gelendzhik, about 25 miles to the south, to order ships to cease navigation as they warned the waters were unsafe. Tourists as far away as Sochi were told to leave the water and the beach for shelter. A combination of sea and aerial drones had started hitting the city on the morning of Sep 24. The Russian Defense Ministrystated it had downed 16 drones over the Black Sea. It was later revised to say air defense forces had intercepted and destroyed 25 Ukrainian drones over seven Russian regions and the Black Sea. Vdeos began emerging online, including one showing a sea drone exploding near the city center of Novorossiysk in Tsemess Bay. Another showed shots being fired at another sea drone. The mayor of Novorossiysk issued an alert regarding a threat of unmanned boats. He later revised it, talking of drones that struck the city while warning residents to stay away from windows and rooms facing the sea. They were told to take shelter in basements or underground garages, as he said the city was in a state of emergency. Mayor Andrey Kravchenko initially reported two people were killed and three were injured. Other government agencies were saying that casualties had risen to seven, with six taken to hospitals. After the first wave of the attack, the Operational Headquarters later warned that alarms were again sounding for another potential drone attack. Later there also came reports of drones in the Tuapse seaport to the south-east, one of Russia's key transportation hubs providing access for the export of oil, coal, fertilizers, metal products, and grain. The mayor also reported the sighting of drones, warning residents to leave the shoreline. At least one explosion was caught on video and posted on social media. Murmansk
In the Murmansk Oblast, a violent storm hit the coast on the morning of Nov 16, 2025. Two ships, the ' Sargan' and 'Nadezhda', were torn from their moorings at the pier in the Lodeynaya Bay, and one of them sank in the Barents Sea. The other capsized and drifted onto rocks. The incident has triggered an immediate emergency response, including the clearing of debris and the readiness of local schools to act as shelters. The incident occurred when gale-force winds and strong waves broke mooring lines, causing two ships to break lose from the pier near Teriberka. Local rescue services have been mobilized to assess damage to port infrastructure, clear broken moorings and debris, and secure the pier area. The harsh weather conditions have complicated rescue and containment efforts. Once weather conditions has improved, the owners will carry out the necessary recovery work. The prosecutor's office was conducting an investigation into compliance with safety laws regarding the operation of watercraft. On Nov 2, 2025, a Russian pusher tug was gutted by a fire in the Russian port of Kavkaz, in the Kerch Strait, off the Taman Peninsula in the Krasnodar regionemitting a thick column of black smoke. Satellite images were showing traces of fuel spills in the port area. The Russian authorities have not released details about the cause of the fire or the type and quantity of petroleum products spilled. The fire occurred after a series of explosions overnight in several Russian regions. Ukrainian special operations units reported drone attacks against Russian energy infrastructure, including electrical substations in Kursk and Alchevsk and an oil terminal in Tuapse. On Nov 3, a Russian Albatros-class (Project 1124M) anti-submarine vessel caught fire at the Sevastopol naval base in the temporarily occupied Crimea. The ship, moored in Sukharnaya Bay, was emitting thick smoke. While the vessel's identity and the cause of the fire have not yet been confirmed, observers identified it as one of the Albatros-class ships still stationed in Sevastopol. Tuapse
On the night of Nov 1, 2025, a major Ukrainian drone attack hit the oil port of Tuapse, damaging the Aframax 'Pollux' (IMO: 9243320), as well as the product tankers 'Coast Buster' (IMO: 9312913) and 'Chai' IMO: (9275402) , and parts of Rosneft's oil terminal. The attack sparked extensive fires at a couple of the terminal's berths. No one was injured, and all fires were extinguished on the morning of Nov 2. The maritime security analyses from the UK's Ambrey showed satellite images of at least two tankers on fire. The port has already been the target of Ukrainian attacks in thepast. Kyiv has claimed responsibility and stated that five drones hit the cargo facilities. The attack came as Ukraine wasintensifying its campaign against Russian energy infrastructure to weaken the country's war economy. About 20 % of Russia's refinery capacity has been put out of service by drone attacks in recent months. In this regard, Russian authorities have started to erect protective structures around energy facilities. A further drone attack hit an oil refinery in Saratov, about 900 kilometers east of Ukraine. Zeebrugge
On Oct 2, the Belgian police ended the blockade by Greenpeace protestors of the Zeebrugge LNG terminal. The activists have been removed and arrested after 29 hours while its sailboat was moved to a dock in the port, and the flow of LNG carriers has resumed. 70 Greenpeace activists took to the harbour on Oct 1 in a flotilla of small boats, kayaks, and inflatables surrounding the Greenpeace sailing vessel 'Witness'. They had timed the protest and hidden at various points around the port, so that it began just after an LNG carrier departed the terminal operated by Fluxys. The group included a large inflatable with images of Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump and a large banner reading “They love gas, you pay the price.” It was timed to the ongoing talks regarding the EU’s 19th sanction package against Russia, which calls for an end to Russian gas imports. Greenpeace, however, is also calling for an end to U.S. LNG imports, saying Europe must halt all supply contracts for fossil gas with a phase-out by 2035. A police boat was standing by near the protest on Oct 1, but initially took no action. After about 24 hours, Greenpeace said more than 40 protestors were still blocking the terminal, including with their kayaks and inflatable boats. They were determined to stay despite cold temperatures, humidity, and lack of sleep. The 'Witness' was positioned in the inner harbor, blocking the entry to the terminal. It took the police a couple of hours to terminate the blockade.
